NEWTS Wrap Up

In addition to the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge, I decided to try the NEWTS reading challenge inspired by Harry Potter. The challenge was created by this wonderful youtuber: Book Roast NEWTS. This was supposed to be completed in August, but I decided to just try and finish it even if it took me longer. 

For NEWTS I decided on the Magizoologist path. The Magizoologist path requires an O in Care of Magical Creatures, E in Charms, and E in Herbology. You must complete all prior letters to achieve the required letter as well.

Here is the breakdown of what I read for the Magizoologist path. Reviews for all of these books can be found in prior posts. Their book number for 2019 will be italicized in parentheses to help locate their posts:
  • Care of Magical Creatures
    • A. Follow the Spiders! Why couldn't it be follow the butterflies! Book title that starts with a letter A, for Aragog!
      • A Midsummer Night's Dream (Book 48)
    • E. Book under 300 pages
      • How to Skimm Your Life (Book 51)
    • O. Grab onto Fawke's Tail! Read a book with a bird on the cover.
      • Flame in the Mist (Book 49)
  • Charms
    • A. Read a book that you think has a gorgeous cover
      • Gods of Jade and Shadow (Book 52)
    • E. Read a comic/graphic novel/manga (or a book under 150 pages)
      • Ms. Marvel: No Normal (Book 45)
  • Herbology
    • A. Mandrake! Quick, put your headphones on! Listen to an audiobook (if not - green cover)
      • Yes Please (Book 53)
    • E. Read a Book between 350-390 pages.
      • Lock Every Door (Book 50)

I'm really loving the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge. It's been helping me with a couple of reading related things I struggled with in the past. First, it's helping me always have a next book ready to read, so that I haven't hit a point so far this year where I don't know what to read next and end up reading nothing for a few weeks. Second, and perhaps more importantly, it's been helping me broaden my reading horizons and read books that I wouldn't normally have read. 2019 Reading Challenge Reviews - Books 19 & 20

Book 19:  Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts.  by Bren é   Brown I gave this book 2/5 stars on Goodreads. The prompt I chose for this was "A Book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter"  I'd heard amazing things about this book, and so when my sorority decided to read it for their book club I was excited to join in. The wait to get this book from the library was well over a month, and I took that as a good sign too that it was well loved and going to be a great book. Unfortunately, for me that was not the case. 2020 Reading Challenge Reviews: Book 3

Hello readers!  As I'm planning my wedding for this time next year, I found that I really wanted to read some chick-lit/romance. What better way to do that than to continue the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts? Here is my book review for my 3rd book of 2020: Book 3:  Bed of Roses   by Nora Roberts I gave this book 3/5 stars on Goodreads. (Photo courtesy of Goodreads) This series follows a group of four life long friends who loved playing make-believe when they were kids, particularly, planning each other's weddings. Now, years later, they all live and work on the same large property (in different buildings) that also serves as the venue for their business. What business? Why planning weddings of course!
